SplashTop 2 Review

Back then, pcAnywhere was the only app that offered the ability to remote control your computer. But now, there are myriad apps that allow you to do just that, plus more. One of the  popular ones include SplashTop. Read on to find our review (which is more like a rant).

SplashTop 2 Review

Like most of the remote control apps, there are two components in this app – streamer that is installed on computers from where the screens need to be shared and the remote app that is installed on the iPad. To make it all work, just start the Streamer app on the host computer and then start the remote app on the iPad. Everything works like a charm.

With the new Splashtop, things have changed drastically. It is no longer free to the new customers. News users will be forced to shell out 1 dollar a month to enjoy anywhere access.

Also, contrary to what many believe, it is not an RDP client. Funny thing is that the company behind it used to advertise it as RDP client before. In our test, it did not even transmit any sound if you have more than 2 speakers connected to the computer.

Our suggestion – If you want a real RDP client, we suggest getting iTap RDP which also supports full 32 bit true color and has little input lag. Heck, it even works over HTTP with RD Gateway. You can choose the same kind of options like the official Windows RDP client (Desktop background, Font smoothing, Show window contents while dragging, Menu and window animation, Visual styles etc.) and set a different set of options for 3G.
